The Public Service Announcement project was the first project we had to involve the entire video production process. Even though I felt we faced a time crunch, I am satisfied with the final outcome. I believe the flow of the PSA was really smooth and the point can be easily understood. One thing I did not like about the PSA however occurred where our actor had their papers knocked out of their hands. It then jumps to them picking the stuff up off the floor. I feel could have gone a lot better with a retake of the scene by having them going to the ground to pick it up. But without enough time for a retake, I think the shot suffices and doesn’t interrupt the overall point of the PSA. If I could change something about the PSA, it would be that scene where it jumps. Other than that I didn’t see any other problems with the flow or theme of the PSA.
During this project, I learned a lot about the video production process. The hardest part for me of the entire project would be development of the idea. It was demanding and a lot of work with all the ideas flying around to come up with three general ideas. Narrowing those three ideas down to one idea and elaborating on it wasn’t a walk in the park either. Having to look at each and every little detail for the storyboards was as stressful as originally forming the ideas. One thing that I would do differently to make the PSA better and the process more organized would be to elaborate on the storyboards and detail everything about it instead of just putting down a few things and trying to figure the rest out while recording. I found doing it like that took a lot more time recording and editing. If I was to provide some advice to another person creating a PSA for the first time, I would tell them to take their time on brainstorming the idea and to elaborate on the storyboards as much as possible. By doing that, it leaves enough time for retakes and to tie up any other loose ends. After everything we did for the first big video production project, I think it was worth the work and I am pleased with the end result.
